LE RENOIR | 1155 Sherbrooke St. W. ~ in the Sofitel | www.restaurant-renoir.com
I don't eat breakfast often, and aside from an annual hangover trip to Cosmos in NDG, I certainly don't make a habit of going out and paying someone else to make it for me.
Recently I had to meet with a supplier downtown, and he suggested Le Renoir, a client of his, so I made an exception. This ridiculously expensive, very "see and be seen" breakfast scene is a little ridiculous, but they won me over on one aspect: the details. See, this is what most people forget about entirely, and food - or more precisely food service - is all in the details. Renoir nails this - down to the shooters of fresh fruit juice served prior to your meal, the hand selected picture perfect pieces of fruit that adorn each plate, the individual French-press coffee makers that are set on every table, and the annoyingly excellent table side service which you want to hate but can't help but love, cause truly no one, at any other point in your day, will treat you so well.
$46 for breakfast for two is excruciating, unless you have an unlimited expense account - which clearly all the suits there do - but you know what, if I have to find myself in a restaurant anytime before noon, why not make it a place which sets the standard head and shoulders above every other hash brown slinging joint in town...
