So it's that time again...another year over, another beginning. I won't admit to feeling great about being that much closer to the mid-point between 0 and 100, but I also don't feel any worse than I did this time last year, so that's a good thing. One thing birthdays are good for is guilt free indulgence, and tonight is the night.
I picked up a 2.25 inch ribbie (yes, I measured it) at Loblaws, as well as a NY strip for the kids. The butcher not only generously agreed to custom cut ithem, but also commended me on my excellent taste, which is always nice. I am mashing some potatoes as we speak, to which I will add butter, cream, and a generous handful of lobster chunks, before I scoop the mixture into ramkins, top them with cheese, and broil them until I acheive an excellent crust. I also picked up 3 cobs of fresh corn, which I soak (husks on) for about 30 minutes and toss on the grill alongside the steaks. Yum.
Wine selections for the evening include a 2007 "Le Cigare Volant", from Bonny Doon, in California. It's a GSM (grnache, syrah, mourvedre) and it's delicious. The second bottle is a 2008 Margaux "Chateau La Tour de Bessan". I will drink them both.
And there you have it. Another year older. What better excuse for a stroke inducing meal?
